Student’s Name:Rafael Ricardo Ávila Pérez
NUA:901954
1.What is “Integrated Business
Planning” (IBP)? IBP is a procedure for matching a company's business goals with
its finances, supply chain, product development, operational functions
demand
forecasting, profitability and income analysis, supply chain planning and
marketing and sales strategy.
2.What is “Sales and Operations Planning” (S&OP)? Sales and
Operations Planning (S&OP) is an integrated planning process that ties
together demand, supply, and financial planning and is managed as part of a
company's master planning. The S&OP is a resource for making executive
decisions related to the approval of a profitable material and financial plan.
3.What are the similarities between IBP and
S&OP? Mention and describe
them.
Both seek to unify and plan the business
from sales to operations.
Both require supporting data, which helps
align forecasts with functions and guides managers in making planning
decisions.
Monthly process This procedure is done
monthly
Cross-functional approach Focuses on
different functions of the company
Driven by business strategy it is done as
a resource for different objectives of the company
Tactical planning at an aggregated level
4.What are the differences between IBP and
S&OP? Mention and describe them.
The big difference between IBP and
S&OP is that the latter has become the domain of supply chain and logistics
specialists, particularly those involved in supply-and-demand balancing and
planning. S&OP is execution-focused and involves a traditional budgeting
process.
Some major differences between S&OP
and IBP are:
S&OP
-Supply-and-demand focused
-Meetings-heavy and output focused
-Short-term plans to drive supply and
output
-Traditional, static budgeting practices
IBP
-Involves the entire business in the
planning process
-Monthly planning focuses on optimizing
results and leverages scenario planning as a tool. The result is a more agile
organization
-Long-term view to inform decision-making
-Comprehensive and “living” financial plan
with a range of associated KPIs
5.How does the IBP process work? Describe in detail
How does the
IBP process work?
Companies have
an annual budget cycle, based on their strategic plans and targets. The annual
budget projects planned revenues and costs for the year.
In traditional
S&OP companies go through a monthly process during which they project for
the next 6 to 24 months where demand will go, and what resources need to be
available to meet that demand. When gaps are discovered between expected demand
and available resources looking this far ahead into the future, this often
provides ample time to balance supply and demand, so that by the time real
customer orders are submitted, demand can be met.
Suppose that
during this monthly S&OP cycle, one would also look 6 to 24 months into the
future where expected revenues and costs will go. And how these financial
figures would look compared to the annually budgeted revenues and cost. Most
likely gaps will occur here as well between the annually budgeted numbers and
the monthly updated numbers. Actions could then be taken to address these gaps.
Integrating a financial view. When this happens, we actually practice IBP. In
IBP the relationship with the financial performance management cycle is very
important. Budget and financial forecasting must be aligned and integrated with
the steps from the original S&OP cycle
6. What are the challenges of IBP?
avoid unplanned
events
Generate
confidence so that a joint work is generated
know the life
cycle of the products and remove them from sale when their usefulness is not
current
7.Which are the most common difficulties/problems when implementing IBP? Mention them and
provide examples.
Resistance to
its implementation, due to the belief that this method was created by consulting
companies
Another problem
is the confusion of the terms IBP and S&OP, as when the managers of the
company do not know how to differentiate between both processes
the lack of
adequate governance in the organization where this procedure is implemented,
such as when corporate governance is not well organized in a company or when it
is negligent
8.What are the advantages and disadvantages of IBP?
Adventages
-Improvement in
profit rates by reducing errors and losses derived from bad practices.
-Reduction of
working capital expenditures by optimizing end-to-end process planning.
-Streamline
logistics, capacity, procurement, supply and demand, all with the use of a
single planning solution.
-Enhanced
cross-functional collaboration, planning agility, risk mitigation, and
forecasting accuracy.
-Reduction of
planning deadlines from weeks or tables to a few days or hours.
-Greater value
in the company's investments.
-Increased
confidence in meeting objectives.
Disadvantages
-It does not
train the key personnel who operate the S&OP
-lack and
understanding of the process and responsibilities
- incomplete
and misplaced organizational structures
- lack of
alignment with management by objectives
- the process
does not evolve
9.What is the importance of IBP nowadays?
Procedures such as the IBP contribute to an effective method of organization among all the actors of a company, as well as raw materials and supplies, without neglecting finances. The importance of this method is in how it provides elements to comprehensively manage an organization

I agree with everything you mention in your publication, we agree on some answers, however yours are more complete, I did not know so many advantages that these systems had and it helped me a lot to know them when reading your information, and I agree these systems are of great help for a company to be more efficient and organized.
ResponderBorrarWhich is the biggest disadvantage of IBP for you?
ResponderBorrarlack of alignment with management by objectives
BorrarOne of the similarities between the IBP and the S&OP, the monthly process, is also an advantage for me. The fact that the results are constantly reviewed represents that decisions are being made to improve them.
